Trying to ping my IP address (which remains the same for several days) from outside I get no response. Same if I try to open an FTP session from outside (with an FTP server running on my home machine). I'm trying to understand whether this a configuration problem on my side or whether Cablecom simply prevents setting your own server by blocking/filtering incoming traffic? If yes, then you have to activate a Port-Forwarding service on your router. a second reason for your problem, could be a firewall, installed on your computer. search for some options about FTP protocol or the Port 21 on your firewall. so.. could you tell us plz some more details... about your homenetwork (i.e.: Cablemodem --> My PC, or: Cablemodem --> Router --> My PC) and about your OS, installed Firewall, etc. -- Veröffentlicht durch Willy am 9:21 am am Dez. 28, 2003 Problem was the way I was trying to get in from the outside. There is actually no problem with my configuration... All the points raised (firewall, port fowarding) are valid and need to be configured properly in order to operate any type of server. Thank you for clearifying that CC does not restrict inbound traffic.
